Why We Exist

The dismissal gap is real. We close it.

Most primary care doctors received fewer than four hours of menopause education in medical school. The 2002 Women's Health Initiative created a generation-long fear of HRT that the clinical data has corrected, but clinical practice hasn't caught up.

The result: millions of women experiencing real, disruptive symptoms are told nothing is wrong. We built TheMenopauseIndex.org to give those women the information, the language, and the access pathways their doctors should have provided.

Phrases women hear. What they actually mean.
🩺
"Your labs are normal."
Reference ranges weren't built for perimenopausal women. Current NAMS and ACOG guidance supports symptom-based evaluation in many cases.
📅
"You're too young for menopause."
Perimenopause starts, on average, at 47, though can begin in the late 30s. Dismissing early symptoms delays care by years.
🧠
"It's probably just stress or anxiety."
Estrogen affects the brain. Mood changes, brain fog, and anxiety are documented hormonal symptoms, not psychological ones.
"Come back when you've stopped cycling."
Perimenopause can last 7–10 years. Waiting for periods to stop before treatment means years of unnecessary suffering.
